“Lháẃḵem (Blue Mussel)”: A REMARKABLE PUBLIC ART ADDITION TO THE CITY OF THE ARTS

In the heart of Port Moody, a captivating transformation is underway. Two decades ago, Kush Panatch acquired a 3.5-acre industrial parcel across in the heart of Port Moody. Today, this once-industrial land has blossomed into a 358-unit condominium development.

Yesterday, a significant milestone was achieved as the Panatch Group’s commissioned art piece found its home within the Tri Cities community. Lháẃḵem, a mesmerizing 14’ x 3’ x 2.5’ Fiberglass, Copper, LED-lit Blue Mussel sculpture, has been installed as the idea of ‘wonder,’ and the power that it has over the spectator. Designed by the talented artist James Harry, a Vancouver native of Squamish heritage, the installation of “Lháẃḵem marked an emotional and long-awaited moment since James was awarded the project in 2019.

Unit #5051, our 51-ton Compa Hiab crane, played a pivotal role in the successful installation of Lháẃḵem. The piece was picked up the night prior and then carefully transported to the site following morning.  The collaborative efforts of various teams from British Columbia and Alberta came together to unveil this remarkable addition to Port Moody’s cultural landscape.

Thank you to Panatch group, Bennett from Cravel Creative and James Harry for including us in this special project and sharing with us this exciting endeavour!
