Here’s to another public art install in the books. Set against the backdrop of Oakridge Centre, our team was onsite in south Vancouver yesterday with unit 5064 to install ‘Sentient Relics’. A bold, twelve-foot fiberglass sculpture by Vancouver based artist Howie Tsui. Positioned as a pond feature in front of Claridge House, its robot like, transformer-inspired form feels both nostalgic and futuristic.
After chatting with the artist, Howie shared that the piece was inspired by childhood memories of Transformer toys, something you instantly recognize, yet layered with deeper meaning around identity and culture.
Onsite, our operator handled the pace, the move, the lifts and the rigging just perfectly. Even with the required site orientation to work at this Polygon construction site, the job was completed in two hours.
A big thank you to Albert, who delivered the piece all the way from Calgary. We unloaded him as soon as we arrived at site, so he was quickly back on the road for his next pickup before heading home to Alberta. When you have a long day ahead of you, that level of coordination makes all the difference.
Projects like this highlight what we can do and the expertise of our team. Art installs demand care, communication, and finesse. It’s not just about lifting; it’s about placing something meaningful exactly where it belongs.
So just like that, another piece of art is now part of Vancouver’s landscape, and with two more installs lined up next week, we might have to start calling ourselves artists too .
