We recently had the privilege of partnering with a client for a special project, installing a stunning piece of artwork by Thomas Cannell, at 5980 Kathleen Ave, Burnaby. This project was not your typical job for us; it was an opportunity to engage and assist with the artistry of a family deeply rooted in the Coast Salish traditions.
Thomas Cannell, a gifted artist from the Musqueam Nation, carries forward the rich legacy of his mother, the renowned Susan Point. Living on his traditional Musqueam homeland at the mouth of the Fraser River, Thomas’s connection to his heritage and the natural world is a constant source of inspiration for his work. His sister, Kelly Cannell, is also a prominent artist, further showcasing the incredible creative talent that runs in this family.
For this job, we sent one of our rear mount cranes to install this latest piece of art from Thomas. And like every art installation that we are a part of, our operator ensured that the lifts were executed with precision. The intricate designs and the powerful symbolism in this work required meticulous handling and a deep appreciation of its cultural significance, and our operator was up for the challenge.
If you find yourself near 5980 Kathleen Ave, we encourage you to take a moment to appreciate this remarkable piece of art and reflect on the stories it tells. It is a beautiful addition to the community and a reminder of the rich cultural tapestry that surrounds us.
