A Perfect Monday Morning Installing “Secret Balance”

Some Monday mornings are better than others, and this one was hard to beat.

Last week, we were proud to assist with the installation of Secret Balance, a stunning bronze whale sculpture by Coast Salish artist Susan A. Point. Susan is a member of Musqueam First Nation and is internationally recognized for her work celebrating Coast Salish culture, history, and artistic traditions.

The artwork arrived after a long journey from Calgary and was carefully unloaded and positioned with our crane unit 5069. At the controls was crane operator Craig, whose steady hand and attention to detail helped ensure the installation went smoothly from start to finish.

Working alongside the talented team from Carvel Creative, every step of the process was carefully planned and executed. Art installations like this require much more than simply lifting an object into place. They demand teamwork, communication, precision, and patience from everyone involved. From the transportation crew and installers to the crane operator and spotters, every role plays an important part in protecting this massive artwork and ensuring a successful installation.

The conditions couldn’t have been better. Not too hot, not too cold, no major challenges to overcome, just a group of professionals doing what they do best. Days like this are a reminder of how rewarding our work can be when planning, experience, and teamwork come together.

Thank you to Carvel Creative, Susan Point, and everyone involved for allowing us to be part of bringing this permanent landmark to the Little Mountain Neighbourhood House. The results are spectacular, and we are so happy that we could play a small role in helping Secret Balance find its home.
