Teresa Achieves Construction Safety Office (CSO) Certification, Enhancing Workplace safety and Professional Expertise

Port Coquitlam, BC, June 2, 2023 – Phoenix Truck & Crane, a company dedicated to maintaining the highest in industry safety standards, proudly announces that Teresa Calla, one of its safety department employees, has recently obtained the esteemed Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification. This significant achievement highlights the company’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure work environment and highlights Teresa’s exceptional dedication to professional growth.

The CSO certification, awarded by the CARE Institute of Safety & Health Inc. is recognized as a mark of excellence in the construction industry. It equips safety professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to uphold stringent safety protocols and promote a culture of safety awareness on work sites. Teresa’s successful completion of this rigorous training program demonstrates her commitment to fostering a secure and hazard-free workplace environment.

Teresa’s journey towards achieving this accreditation began when the company’s Vice President, Trevor Dick recommended her for the program. Recognizing the potential benefits, Teresa approached her direct superior to discuss the opportunity, and both agreed that gaining formal education and a deeper understanding of the construction industry would indeed be invaluable for her role and for the general safety of Phoenix Truck & Crane, their employees, and customers. Motivated by this acknowledgement, Teresa embarked on the CSO training, determined to enhance her skills, and broaden her knowledge.

The course was intense yet highly informative, covering a wide range of safety protocols and practices specific to the construction industry. Teresa diligently immersed herself in the coursework, driven by her desire to truly comprehend the material and perform at a high standard. With multiple assignments each week and two final exams, Teresa’s dedication was evident and her aptitude in balancing her personal life as a mom and wife while completing this in-depth course was remarkable.

Reflecting on her experience, Teresa shared with the marketing team, “completing my schooling and becoming an accredited CSO means a lot to me. Initially, I had reservations about transitioning from healthcare to the trades industry. However, my passion for helping people got me to end up in the Safety Division at Phoenix, and I am so immensely grateful to Phoenix for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to learn, grow, and advance my career. This achievement has truly filled my cup.”

By investing in Teresa’s professional development and supporting her pursuit of the CSO certification, Phoenix demonstrates its dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards and ensuring the well-being of its employees. Teresa’s newly acquired expertise will enable her to conduct safety orientations for new workers, deliver crew-talks to disseminate important safety information, and proactively address potential hazards on work sites. Her accreditation as a CSO will undoubtedly contribute to the company’s ongoing commitment to a safe and secure workplace environment.

The CSO certification requires renewal every five years, ensuring that professionals like Teresa stay up to date with the latest safety practices and regulations. “As Phoenix celebrates Teresa’s achievement, the company reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth”, says Lora Covinha, President & General Manager of Phoenix Truck & Crane.
