A Tribute Set in Stone at the Port Moody Firehall

This morning, our team had the privilege of taking part in a moment that carried both weight and profound meaning, literally and emotionally. Just one year after the passing of long serving Port Moody volunteer firefighter Graham Pawlett, a memorial boulder bearing his name has now found its place at the Port Moody Inlet Centre Firehall, and we were honoured to help.

The piece was designed locally, and early today our crane operator along with Mike, Alex, and Sage carefully installed the boulder at its permanent location. As with every lift, safety and precision guided the work, but there was something about this one that made the entire team slow down and take a breath. This wasn’t just another crane job. It was a tribute to a man who gave 38 years of service to his community, a man whose leadership and courage touched firefighters across Canada.

During the installation, our team spent time speaking with Deputy Fire Chief Jason Harper, who shared how much this memorial means to the department. Jason just returned from Ottawa, where he saw the national firefighters’ memorial wall, which includes an engraving of Graham’s name. He then returned home to witness this local tribute take shape. As Jason said, the timing almost felt orchestrated, as though both honours were meant to align.

As the Tri-Cities local crane company, we never take for granted the trust placed in us during these meaningful projects. Being invited into moments like this, where a community pauses to honour a life of dedication and service, is something we carry with pride. These jobs stay with us and remind us why we love what we do.

Today, we were not just moving a boulder. We were helping lay a piece of Graham’s legacy into the heart of his hometown firehall, where his name, his courage, and his decades of service will continue to inspire.

To Graham, his family, and Port Moody Fire & Rescue, thank you for letting us be a small part of this beautiful tribute.
