Craning For The Children

The philanthropic initiative by one of our clients inspired us when we were asked to crane their newest ventilation unit, little did we know when we donated our services that it was for one of the most amazing endeavors in the lower mainland – the Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

Canuck Place is BC’s pediatric palliative care provider for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. Welcoming a maximum of 9 kids, this special facility is not like any others. Built in 1910, this 16,000 sq feet mansion in the middle of the Shaughnessy neighbourhood opened its doors as a hospice in 1995. It provides; a classroom where children can continue their studies, private suites to accommodate four families to stay for weeks or even months, a beautiful kitchen for everyone to enjoy warm meals, a community and a music therapy room in the basement.

On July 3rd, unit #5051 in partnership with Viaduct Sheet Metal, removed the old exhaust fan from the home and installed the new piece. The work was straight forward so we were also able to tour the property with David Ponech, who shared the facilities and gave us insight into the difference their work makes in the lives of families.

Canuck Place is the first free-standing hospice in North America and living proof that when a genuine need is combined with a vision, passionate individuals, any goal can become a reality. We were enriched to be able to play a small part in ensuring that Canuck Place keeps thriving and is able to focus its energy and funds on what is at its heart – the children!
