Partnering To Save Lives In Our Community

When we heard about the latest fundraising campaign from the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation (ERHF), we knew we wanted to be a part of it. At first, we didn’t know in what capacity, but the idea of giving emergency room (ER) patients a better chance to be successfully transferred to a higher acute hospital such as Children’s, Royal Columbian or Vancouver General was enticing. As a transportation company, we understand the difficulties of navigating throughout the lower mainland:  traffic, road conditions and other motorists are common industry topics! When you consider that someone with a critical health condition must be transported safely to another facility, you need to provide them with the best medical equipment available.

Eagle Ridge Hospital currently has two Lifepaks – one at the end of its useful life and the other with fewer features than today’s model – which are used to monitor and stabilize vital signs, as well as providing symptom management for intubated patients during transport. This unit can be used for children, adults, and seniors, and will act as a defibrillator if the patient’s heart stops. With the growing population and increase in construction projects in our community (many of which Phoenix Truck & Crane is involved), Eagle Ridge Hospital is getting busier. For most businesses, increase of frequency is the goal and extremely encouraging, but for a hospital it means more people coming into its emergency, and those people often need immediate assistance and specialized equipment. A new Lifepaks transport monitor is therefore urgent to this hospital!

Charlene Giovannetti-King, the foundation’s executive director, recognized that support from the Tri Cities has been outstanding during this campaign, but last week, they were still $15,000 shy from their goal. As a long-term partner of the ERHF, Phoenix chose to step up and help them top off the campaign.

Like Phoenix, Eagle Ridge Hospital understands the essentials of managing equipment by being proactive and diligent in planning for maintenance. Whether the equipment is used for business or saving lives, continuous upkeep is necessary.

Eagle Ridge Hospital saves lives, restores hope, and transforms the future of our community so it was without hesitation that we contributed the remaining funds needed to purchase a new Lifepak.

Important fact: Approximately, 1,000 patients per year are transferred from Eagle Ridge Hospital’s ER to receive a higher level of care and 30% of these transfers are due to life, limb and threatened organs. Donate today and ensure each patient has the best chance of survival with the new Transport Monitor.
