Now Hiring – Junior Safety Advisor

Scope

The Junior Safety Advisor is responsible for working with management, employees, and owner operators to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. The Junior Safety Advisor will ensure that the company safety program is compliant with all applicable provincial laws and best practices, and implemented in an organized and efficient manner. The role will report to the General Manager and the Safety Manager. The role is a junior position, with the opportunity to transition into an intermediate position with hard work and dedication to the team.

Job Description Details

  • Conduct and document off-site vehicle inspections of all company owned and owner operator trucks and cranes
  • Conduct ongoing site safety inspections of the office, warehouse, and yard
  • Work with the Safety Coordinator to complete data compilation pertaining to all things safety related
  • Work with the Safety Coordinator to ensure the company is current on all Health & Safety legislations and is meeting with provincial regulations relating to Occupational Health & Safety
  • Assist with accident/incident investigations, ensuring that they are properly reported, and recommend effective preventative measures
  • Assist with WCB investigations and claims, including Form 7 & Accident Investigation reports
  • Conduct onsite Health & Safety orientation for new workers, both in house staff and owner operators
  • Work with Driver Services to ensure that all employees and owner operators are up to date with all related training and certification
  • Act as the company safety representative at site safety orientation meetings

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • 1 year minimum in a safety related position
  • Must have a current OFA 2
  • Thorough knowledge of all WorkSafe (WCB) procedures/safety practices
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively while administering first aid
  • Ability to organize and ensure all accidents, incidents and injuries are properly reported and recorded as per WorkSafe and Company practices
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Trucking industry knowledge/experience an asset
  • Understanding of the Certificate of Recognition (COR) an asset

Additional Information

  • The successful candidate must have a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and vehicle
  • The successful candidate will ensure our COR Certification standards are always met
