A Bear On The Move

Were you looking for the Grizzly Bear Sculpture in North Vancouver? Don’t worry, we found it and brought it back ‘home’ 😉

The North Vancouver landmark, a 4-meter bronze life-size grizzly that was originally installed in 2007, returned to the corner of 11th and Lonsdale last Thursday after being refurbished by the original artist, Ken Clarke.

Conserving and maintaining our communities’ public art is important for the preservation of our cultural heritage and the richness of our neighborhoods so, after 13 years outside, the popular 600-pound artwork was worthy of some love, care, and restoration.

It took Clarke a few months to carefully restore the sculpture while adding a few new elements, so when we got the call that the artwork was ready to be picked up, it did not take us long to drive to Powell Street, Vancouver (Clarke’s studio location) and collect the piece. In less than 2 hours, Grizzly was back to place and the entire neighborhood was there for a warm welcome home.  ‘Long live the Gizzly’!
