Phoenix Truck & Crane Achieves COR™ Certification

Coquitlam, BC, June 30, 2016 – Phoenix Truck & Crane is raising the bar in the fleet industry by attaining the Certificate of Recognition (COR™) on Tuesday.

In BC, COR™ is a voluntary program that recognizes and rewards employers who go beyond the legal requirements of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulation by implementing a health and safety management system. COR™ is awarded to employers who successfully pass a COR audit and whose account is in good standing with WorksafeBC. The COR program is aimed at driving positive workplace behavior and practices that lead to constantly improving safety performance.

Phoenix Truck and Crane is proudly committed to reducing both the human and financial costs of workplace injuries. “Drivers built this company and we owe it to them to take every measure possible to send them back home safely every day” says Bill Dick, owner of Phoenix Truck & Crane. “The dedication of our team during the preparation for COR has made me nothing but prouder and confirmed that I have surrounded myself with exceptional people.”

Phoenix Truck & Crane’s commitment to health & safety goes well beyond the average since they have taken the initiative to train their 130+ owner operators to make the entire company COR certified. “SafetyDriven – Trucking Safety Council of BC helps companies throughout British Columbia in the trucking and moving and storage industries get safer. Phoenix is the first large employer in the trucking industry to take this extra step. We are thrilled to partner with them and help guide them through this process” commented Mark Donnelly, Executive Director at SafetyDriven.

The company COR™ certification is reinforced by also confirming the health and safety standards of any subcontractors, vendors and partners working alongside Phoenix. “I am always encouraged about how much the work we [National Safety Code] do matters when I hear from carriers who take the safety of our industry so seriously” shared Karen Coverett, A/Manager, NSC Program, Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement with Bill Dick.

Phoenix Truck & Crane strongly believes that all injuries are preventable and every effort is made to:

  • Identify hazards
  • Inform others of hazardous situations which they are likely to be exposed to at work
  • Eliminate danger by allowing people to examine each job before starting the work
  • Control or reduce risks
  • Provide guidance to our drivers by establishing regular training time, implementing in-house information area and appointing a dedicated Health & Safety Officer that can answer any questions one may have.

According to Trevor Dick, Phoenix Truck & Crane Safety Officer, the program is one of the reasons that the company has such unique corporate culture. “The team has been behind this initiative from the start and their support and unwavering commitment to making this happen has brought us all closer.”

Dedication and proper care are essential to the continued expansion of Phoenix who achieved a score of 87% on its audit.
